Family Friday Five: The Odyssey, Marriage Therapy and more

I can’t believe I finally get to say HAPPY WEEKEND! It’s been a full-on wild ride this past week. A skateboard accident where a child’s teeth met with the pavement (the pavement won, so we have some significant dental work coming up) and school revving up… it’s been nonstop.

And I will be honest, I am not ready to give in to fall yet. Pumpkin spice latte posts and Halloween party pins are already popping up on my social media feeds. While I love those things, I want to hold on to this precious summer a little longer, please. Sure, I eschew summer bucket lists, but there were still dreams I had for the summer and I haven’t been able to get them done. So just one more lazy pool day before they close it Labor Day? Please?

But here is what we have been loving this week. Here’s the joy.

Our favorite Instagram of the week on FamilyTripMag:

Our Family Friday Five round up this week includes:

1- This graphic novel of The Odyssey for kids.

2- This shop. I stumbled upon them on Etsy as I need a sign for our bathroom to cover some holes the previous owners made in the door. I wanted something that would work aesthetically and functionally. Found it! Then I ended up adding way too much from this shop to my cart. Back button deploy.

3- My smoothie recipes. Mr. Family Trip gave me a Ninja for Christmas with a smoothie attachment (something similar to this) and that’s been taking care of breakfast every workday.

4- This article on marriage therapy:

Marriage enthusiasm is one of the most vulnerable of all our commodities–and yet the easiest target for erosion. Neglect. Death by starvation. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a few times over the past five years that we have changed too much as people and that our marriage was held together more by the kids and our love for our family than our commitment to each other. Until we stopped telling ourselves “this is just the way it is” and fought for more.

5- How to eat clean for beginners. Due to a couple of people in my life having watched Fed Up and drastically changed their eating habits, I have been extremely conscious of what is going in to my body lately. You may remember my foray into a juice cleanse (don’t do it!), but clean eating is fabulous and I highly recommend it.

Articles from last year:

By the way, are you back to school? Back to routine? There are some posts here on The Family Trip to help you get organized and get a jump on the new school year.

(That first even has a free printable included!)
