Our Monthly Trips & Tips: June 2022

Our Monthly Trips & Tips: June 2022

June was, as my kids would say, EPIC. It was chock full of all of my favorite things: momentous occasions with my children as they grow, adventure travel with Mr. Family Trip, and lots of friends and sunshine.

I’ve been doing the hard work of showing up in the present moment for my life. I have gone back to teaching yoga and reconnecting with my breath. It may sound too cheesy for you, but trust me, it works. It helps me slow down and see all of the wonderful things I have in front of me.

And what are some of those wonderful things?

I have walked through streets in Central America and up the side of a volcano.

We’ve had many lovely, small moments at home as a family. I have been trying to treasure everything more than ever.

Here are some things that brought our family joy in June:

Milestones and Traditions

We don’t have a lot of expensive or wild traditions, but we do have little things we’ve always done that mark a rite of passage.

The last day of school (outside of the usual photos on the front porch) we always “surprise” attack the kids with a water balloon fight when they pull into the driveway. It is guaranteed laughter and shrieks of joy.

And whoever invented these has made that tradition SO MUCH EASIER. I went for over 10 years without these and why!?

We had a major birthday – and we always place streamers on the doorway of the bedroom of the birthday boy. But this year we celebrated 13 at home in a casual way, and these number balloons were great.

I love our little traditions. They help us commemorate and celebrate well.

Our June Trips

Antigua Guatemala

June was really about a trip for just Mr. Family Trip and me to Antigua, Guatemala. I’ll be sure to share insights and tips from those adventures soon.

The kids did some day camps, and our (newly) 13 year-old had his first sleep away camp. Honestly, we didn’t mean to wait until he was 13 for that experience but COVID happened.

We loved Guatemala. It was rich with colors and textures that I couldn’t get enough of. I will try to cull through my 400+ pictures and share here soon.

Powerful Books

I spent the month deeply invested in this book. It is challenging but powerful, and really helped me change some of my least helpful ways of thinking. I can’t recommend it enough.

I’ll add that if that is interesting to you, be sure to check out this post about books that can change your life and help you find a new path.

My June PowerSheets

June 2022 Powersheets

I have been finding that my PowerSheets are more open. They seem to have more space and forgiveness in them. Yet there are still some items I just can’t seem to commit to (looking at you “piano daily”). But, as always, I like being aware and concious of what I am putting my energy into and how I am spending my days.

As always, you can shop for PowerSheets at this link.

Looking Ahead to July

SUP Charlottesville

I want to keep my life more open and free in the upcoming months. The kids are growing so fast (how many more firsts of the lasts am I missing?). Yet they have also entered a new stage of life where they need their own space, identity, and independence. I am trying to let things flow into July and the middle-month of a hot summer.

We will be finishing up swim team, gearing up for an international vacation as a family (follow along on Instagram), and working on some house projects.

I hope you all are enjoying summer, where you live, and the wonderful adventure of being in the present moment.
