Taking the Bus, in 100 Words

The challenge given to this writer: write a story in 100 words.

Taking the Bus

The parking lot was 95 degrees as I buckled my uncooperative preschooler in. Then her crinkled face appeared. The creases in her dark skin deepened as she caught my eye. Her wiry gray hair escaped from under her hat, her dress fluttered.

“Please. My daughter had her wisdom teeth out, my car won’t start.  I need money for the bus.”

I looked for the daughter, the car, the bus stop.

“I will pay you back. I need $15.”

I reached into my wallet.

“Praise the LORD!” she shouted, hugging me.

I will never know if she got on the bus.
