I love our pop up camper, Shirley Jean. But, truth be told, she was a bit outdated when we got her. Additionally, one of the previous owners had done some “repairs” and “upgrades” that were not well-thought and starting to fall apart. While I love Pop Up Princess and we had daydreams of refinishing Shirley Jean’s floors and cabinets, the truth is I can’t imagine that happening. The biggest problem is we can not, according to our HOA rules, have a camper in our yard or driveway. Which means that we can’t have the camper opened for renovations.
But using some creativity, we have found ways to easily update and breathe new life into our pop up camper.

New curtains
With easy sewing and complicated mathing, I was able to create new curtains for our pop up camper. The full tutorial is here.
New drawer pulls
While we likely will not be redoing the cabinets in our pop up, it was very easy to change out the drawer pulls and knobs!

for under $50 and 15 minutes.
Slipcovers
This was, by far, my favorite “quick update.” Yes, reupholstering the benches is possible. Yet it requires time, resources and a commitment to perfection that I just couldn’t get all together at the same time.
So I found these slip covers that are great!

I know I picked a color subject to dirt stains more easily than others, but I loved the way the color brightened the entire inside of the camper. Plus: they are removable and washable!!
If you are able to commit to fully reupholstering the benches in your camper, check out this post.
Drawer Liners
This feels like luxury and took very little time. Using non-stick, non-adhesive lining materials, we converted the inside of our drawers to be a patten and color we adore, while also being clean and refreshed.

Mattress Pads
This is really about function. While we love camping and roughing it a little, we’re also hard-working adults who felt we were worth a better sleeping environment. So “upgrading” to a lovely foam mattress cover has been WORTH IT.
These updates helped us make our camper feel more like “us.” It feels cleaner and fresher, yet none of these took significant amounts of time or resources. If you have any other ideas for us, something you’ve done, let us know. Having our camper feel like home makes a difference.
Happy trails!
