Trader Joe’s is not the place where we do our regular grocery shopping, but having one nearby has been fantastic. Over the past few years, they have fueled our camping trips perfectly, and we have come to rely on them for go-to-freezer foods.
Yet not all things at Trader Joe’s are equal. I actually do not think their produce is great. But there are some items that will always make me stop in.
Here is what I buy at Trader Joe’s:
The Chunky Guacamole.
This is basically THE reason I go into the store. It is made with Greek yogurt, so the consistency is incredibly smooth. They say it’s less fat and calories but since I eat the whole thing in a day, not sure that’s helping me out.
Loose nuts.
Fun pastas.
Bread products.
Trader Joe’s has a great selection of dried fruits and nuts. These pack great for camping and hiking, but also taste great!
I always pick up a back of different pasta and particularly enjoy the way the ones below hold the sauce (particularly a good Bolognese).
Be sure to spend some time looking through the specialty dessert and bread products. When they have pancake bread in stock, I take that for vacation and camping every time I can. But the brookies are also a hit.Â
Pre-marinated meats and chicken.
These are just enough for our family of four for now (although our tween is starting to accelerate his calorie intake mightily so not sure how long that will last). These pre-marinated meats make for an easy dinner but they are particularly good for travel since you won’t need to bring or prepare any seasonings or spices – just cook and serve!
K-cups that are better tasting & better for the earth.
We only use the Keurig when we are camping. But being able to use ones that aren’t all plastic makes more sense as a family who tries to be a steward of the earth.
Dark chocolate peanut butter cups.
Pre-popped popcorn with spices.
I don’t feel like there is anything else to say about those two. They are my guilty pleasure/party foods and I love them dearly.
There are other things at Trader Joe’s I always look for. They have delicious shelled frozen edamame, and I also like their frozen chicken gyozas. But, ultimately, the items above are my go-to’s.
As a general rule, I don’t normally buy wine here! I am pretty particular about what wine I enjoy. And while the price tag of the “Two Buck Chuck” (which is no longer two dollars) is friendly, I simply prefer a different flavor profile.Â
But feel free to correct me below – and feel free to share your favorite Trader Joe’s foods. What must I get next time I swing in?
