I am so excited for this weekend – we are sneaking away to watch the Men’s Downhill Mountain Biking World Cup Race in West Virginia! I do not mountain bike, but Mr. Family Trip loves it and even takes our boys. I am mostly looking forward to getting away from house projects, work, and business travel and snuggling up with my kids looking out over the mountains. I loved being at Snowshoe for Wanderlust and am sure it will be just as beautiful this trip, too. (As always, you can follow along on Instagram.)
It’s also been a strange week, watching our former hometown of Wilmington, NC stare down a major hurricane again. All of our friends are fine (blessedly), but it brought up a lot of emotions and feelings for us, a strange realization that we are still confronting the emotional impact of Hurricane Florence on our lives.
So this weekend will be an even sweeter opportunity to commune with God’s nature.
Here’s what else we’ve been up to…

1- These dog collars. Brilliant! Why has no one thought of doing this before?
2- I adore Uncommon Goods, and this table cloth for kids is fantastic! I think teaching kids to be curious about the world can be as simple as allowing them to see the world.
3- This leather jacket. Fall is almost here, and I love the look and feel (and the relative affordability!) of this jacket. I sized up so I can wear it over thicker winter knits.
4- These healthy breakfast bars. I love having a batch in the fridge during a busy week. My plan is to get some ready to go for next week. (Oh, and P.S. even though it isn’t clear, shred or grate that apple!)
5- This biography. I am listening to it through Audible and she narrates. It is long (really long) but I find myself getting choked up. I don’t care what your politics are, just hearing her honestly talk about finding her way through life as a working mom and how she hated her husband’s chosen career is an amazing listen, especially for women. By the way, I think this is a good choice for girls in high school, too. Inspirational.

I hope your weekend is full of memories and the things you love. And remember: the best trip is a family one!
