We are in the thick of it, with two school-aged boys. We are constantly trying to create the family home we want, not the one that just happens and feels overwhelming. Every day, things change. Every day, there are new challenges, exhaustion, discussions but, also, a LOT of fun.
We were tired of seeing parenting websites that felt like more of a hindrance and pressure than a help. So what you WON’T find here on The Family Trip are: celebrity posts, Pinterest-worthy home decor, pictures of our kids being perfect (because they aren’t – right now their clothes are mismatched, their hair is sticking up, they haven’t brushed their teeth, and they are wildly excited about the snail they found in the yard), or pressure to accomplish more than is possible.
What you WILL find here on The Family Trip are:
- practical tips,
- ways to get outside,
- ways to connect to your family (and yourself), and
- encouragement to keep striving towards the family and home you want.
This is a community of support. We build up and help around here.
Here are some other things to know about us:
- We have a low-screen time household. No TV during the school week and we have limits and timers surrounding devices and video games. This is way harder than we thought. It is so much easier to use the screen for our sanity. But we realized we believe in nurturing their little minds and imaginations and in putting family connection first. So we fight the fight and strive for balance.
- We love to travel. Together as husband and wife and with our children. Again, it is hard work (is parenting ever NOT hard work?), but exposing them to the world is something we value.
- We both work. We aren’t roadschooling or living an unconventional life. We work adventure in around a traditional schedule. We decided that for many reasons, but we hope this speaks to you.
- Getting outside is important to us. Pre-kids, we would hit the hiking trail often, but we weren’t necessarily rugged outdoors people. When our sons came along, we decided we wanted to share with them our love of adventure and the outdoors.
- We are a Christian household. We believe that everyone makes their own decisions and everyone has their own powerful belief system, though, so these articles are in no way exclusive to a Christian mindset, family or goals. We’re all in this together.
We launched this website in April 2018 and it’s already had a phenomenal journey as it finds its stride.
We live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia but can’t wait to share the whole, wide world with you.
